Conquest and Challenge are nationally based Catholic youth group organizations that provide teaching and mentoring programs for boys and girls ages 10-15. The groups are age and gender separated (Conquest for boys and Challenge for girls). The programs focus on four pillars of integral formation – Human, Spiritual, Apostolic and Intellectual. These four areas are built into activities throughout the year ranging from weekly meetings, retreats, summer camps, mission trips, etc.
Conquest/Challenge came to us with a need to help them produce an interactive training program for the adult team leaders for each group. We collaborated with VML’s V2 group – an ad agency from Kansas City, Missouri. Our role in the project was to create all of the video assets to be used in the training program. We filmed 5 girls and 5 boys ages 10-15 delivering a short message to the camera explaining different topics such as behavioral changes according to each age group. This would be used to help train the adults who were overseeing each group to relate and understand the kids a little better. In addition to the girls and boys, we filmed a man and woman who would explain each topic in greater detail.
To give us the greatest versatility in post-production we turned to our green screen. Each “character”, if you will, was filmed in front of a green screen and read their script from our teleprompter. Once we had filmed everyone, we were able to use the green screen footage and replace the background with whatever we wanted. In the end, the final decision was to use a clean and simple white background. We compressed all of the videos to specification and sent the video assets on their way to be incorporated to the full flash training program.
